How can Air Traffic Control Officers at the Civil Aviation Department leverage advanced air traffic management systems to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable air navigation services for Hong Kong International Airport and its airspace? The talk will cover the development and evolution of Hong Kong’s Air Traffic Management System.
Pack It or Leave It? Pack Smart, Travel Safe
Have you ever wondered whether you can bring an item onboard or not while packing your luggage? This talk covers the principles of restricted articles and dangerous goods and packing tips for passengers regarding items to be carried onboard in check-in baggage and cabin baggage from the perspectives of aviation safety and security.

Let you know about how radio communications can connect pilots and air traffic controllers, and safeguard aviation safety.
Unlocking Flight Safety – Our Guardians of the Sky
Ever wonder who ensures your flight is safe before you take off? Join us on a virtual, interactive journey from the boarding gate to the aeroplane! We will discover how the jets are inspected for airworthiness. Next, we will peek into the cockpit to explore what it takes to become a licenced pilot, and move down the aisle to unveil the secrets behind cabin safety. Together, we will act as safety inspectors to examine an aeroplane and interview the crew. Discover the invisible role of the Civil Aviation Department, the guardians of the sky upholding flight safety!
Unmanned Aircraft – Fly or not Fly
As innovation and technology progress, operations of small unmanned aircraft (“SUA”), commonly known as drone, have become more popular and diversified. What should you keep in mind when flying an SUA? How to fly an SUA safely? This talk is specifically targeted at drone fanatics and will focus on the safety requirements and points to note when flying an SUA. Don’t miss it if you are interested in flying an SUA!

Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower Simulator Experience

The Control Tower Simulator is an advanced training facility that recreates the operational environment of the aerodrome control tower at Hong Kong International Airport with panoramic displays. During the Open Day, visitors will have a special opportunity to tour the simulator, guided by professional air traffic controllers who will explain how they manage aircraft movements and help keep Hong Kong’s skies safe.

Interested in joining CAD? The Open Day features a career booth introducing the duties of our various grades in CAD, as well as their entry requirements and career paths:

  • Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO)
  • Air Traffic Flight Services Officer (ATFSO)
  • Aeronautical Communications Officer (ACO)
  • Assistant Operations Officer (AOO) (Aviation Administration) & Operations Officer (OO) (Aviation Administration)
  • Assistant Electronics Engineer (AEE) & Electronics Engineer (EE)

Different youth and uniform groups will also set up booths and interact with visitors!

Important Notes

1 All activities of the CAD 80th Anniversary Open Day will mainly be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free of charge.
2 Members of the public who wish to attend the Open Day must register online in advance. Each applicant may request a maximum of three admission tickets free of charge. The admission ticket registration system will accept applications from 14 August to 24 August 2026 via the CAD website.
3 Admission tickets are limited. In the event of oversubscription, selection will be made by computer balloting. Successful applicants will receive an email notification containing an admission ticket (QR code) on or before 4 September 2026.
4 Please read the Terms & Conditions carefully prior to online registration.
5 The personal data collected by the CAD for online registration are only used for the processing of application and communication purposes, and will be destroyed at appropriate time after the event.
