Duties of Aeronautical Communications Officer

The Aeronautical Communications Officer (ACO) is responsible for the provision of aeronautical communication services in Hong Kong via a worldwide network of switching systems, virtual and fixed circuits. The aeronautical communication services include Aeronautical Fixed Services, Aeronautical Broadcasting Services, Regional OPMET Bulletin Exchange Services and Network Security Monitoring Services.

Aeronautical Communications Officers are recruited locally and they normally enter the service as Student Aeronautical Communications Officer (SACO) at Training Pay Scale 5 to 6. SACOs are required to undergo on average one and a half years training. They have to complete the requisite classroom training before undertaking the on-the-job training in the Aeronautical Network Centre (ANC). Upon successful acquisition of necessary certifications, candidates will be promoted to the rank of Aeronautical Communications Officer II (ACO II).

As part of the career development, professional training will be arranged for ACO II to acquire the necessary qualifications for progressive promotion to senior ranks such as Aeronautical Communications Officer I (ACO I), Aeronautical Communications Supervisor (ACS), Senior Aeronautical Communications Supervisor (SACS) and Chief Aeronautical Communications Supervisor (CACS).


Entry Requirements

Candidates should -

  • (i) have Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or equivalent; or

    (ii) have Level 2 / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or equivalent;
  • (Note: The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.)

  • have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 or above in English Language and Level 2 or above in Chinese Language in the HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent;
  • be able to communicate effectively in English; and
  • have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test.

Salary

Training Pay Scale Point 5 to Point 6
