Entry Requirement and Recruitment
Student Air Traffic Control Officer (SATCO) Entry Requirement
-
Have a pass in 2 subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination; and,
-
Have Level 3 (see note below) or above in three other subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) including English Language and the other two subjects with at least one of them being Mathematics, Geography, Physics or Computer Studies, and
-
Have Level 2 or above in Chinese Language in the HKCEE, or equivalent; and,
-
Fluent and good in spoken and written English; and,
-
Be medically fit to meet requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization standards for Air Traffic Control Officers. These include stringent physical and mental requirements, including visual (e.g. no deficiency in visual colour discrimination) and hearing standards are to be satisfied.
(note: a refractive eye surgery will render a person unfit for physical assessment in the 6-month period following the surgery)
Note:
For civil service appointment purpose, 'Grade C' and 'Grade E' in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language and in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 3' and 'Level 2' respectively in English Language and Chinese Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
Academically qualified candidates will be invited to go through a progressive selection process comprising a sequence of modules as follows-
- aptitude test and Basic Law Test (1/2 day)
- interview (20-30 minutes)
- Assessment Centre with individual/group exercise, cognitive tests and personality assessment (1 day)
Air
Traffic Flight Services Officer III (ATFSO III) Entry Requirements
-
Have Level 3 (see note below) or above in English Language, together with 4 other subjects at Grade E or above, in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and,
-
Have Level 2 (see note below) or above in Chinese Language in the HKCEE, or equivalent, if Chinese Language is not included in the above four subjects; and,
-
Good in spoken and written English.
Note:

Student Aeronautical Communications Officer (SACO) Entry Requirements
-
have Level 2 (see note below) or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language, in the Hong Kong Certificate Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and,
-
Able to speak clear and fluent English and Chinese
Note:
