Assistant Electronics Engineer

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have -

  • satisfied in full the academic requirements for Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) (Electronics or Information Discipline), or equivalent (Note 2);

  • completed the formal training pre-approved by the HKIE, or equivalent, or have at least two years’ post-qualification experience in the field of Electronics Engineering or Information Engineering at a professional level (Note 3);

  • a pass result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE); and

  • met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 1” results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the CRE or equivalent (Note 4).

Note:

  1. Candidates who have obtained the Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (elected after 5 December 1975) or equivalent at the time of appointment will NOT be considered for the Assistant Electronics Engineer post. Successful candidates will be required to make a declaration to that effect.
  2. Candidates holding non-local academic qualifications should provide documentary evidence certifying that their degree are accredited by HKIE for the Electronics or Information Discipline.
  3. Candidates holding non-local professional qualifications should provide documentary evidence certifying that they have successfully completed formal (structured) training schemes of non-local professional institutions which have been accepted by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers as equivalent to its Engineering Graduate Training Scheme A.
  4. The results of the Aptitude Test (AT) paper in the CRE are classified as Pass or Fail. The results of the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers of the CRE are classified as Level 2, Level 1 or Fail, with Level 2 being the highest.

    For civil service appointment purpose, Level 5 or above in Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE); or Grade C or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE), are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UC paper of the CRE. Level 4 in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade D in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE, are accepted as equivalent to Level 1 in the UC paper of the CRE.

    Level 5 or above in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade C or above in Use of English of the HKALE; or Grade C or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A Level), are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UE paper of the CRE. Level 4 in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade D in Use of English of the HKALE; or Grade D in English Language of the GCE A Level, are accepted as equivalent to Level 1 in the UE paper of the CRE.

    Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are acceptable as equivalent to Level 2 result in the UE paper of the CRE. The IELTS test result must be valid on the starting day of the application period.

  5. Candidates must submit their application forms together with a Questionnaire on Working Experience in Electronics Engineering or Information Engineering Field on or before the closing date for application. The questionnaire can be downloaded from the Civil Aviation Department’s website.
  6. For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.
  7. Candidates may be required to sit for a written examination in Hong Kong.
